Who Are You Praying For?
I’ve been challenged lately to pray more. I know I need to pray for myself, but I need to spend more time praying for others. I don’t know why I don’t pray more for others. I really don’t. I’ve seen some miraculous prayers answered on behalf of others. I don’t know why I don’t do it more.
One time I had a student that I couldn’t stand. I actually had the Academy Ad Council vote to kick this student out of school. It was very satisfying. And then God started working on my heart. I got the vote changed and allowed the student to remain at school, but it was under some pretty serious conditions. Those conditions were that he not talk to me, or do anything to draw my attention in his direction. I even suggested that if he saw me coming down the sidewalk he should move to a different sidewalk if I didn’t beat him to it.
I’m not proud of my attitude nor my actions in regards to this student. But at least I didn’t kick him out completely. And then God started working on my heart some more. I felt compelled to pray for this student three times a day. I didn’t want to do it. I really didn’t. But God wouldn’t let me off the hook. I prayed for months and nothing happened. And then something did happen. I’ll spare you the whole story, but I’ll tell you this, the highlight of that school year was when I washed that student’s feet and he washed mine one evening at a vesper service and we prayed together.
I know God changed that young man … but … I think he changed me more. I really do need to pray for others … I think I need it.
