Purpose Statement
To share our loving God with hurting people so they may experience His transforming power in their lives. We will do this by:
- (Discipleship) Building intentional relationships that lead to discipleship.
- (Nurture) Nurturing relationships through regular contact and encouragement.
- (Service) Actively helping our neighbors meet their emotional, physical and spiritual needs.
- (Evangelism) Introducing people to Jesus Christ.
- (Worship) Pointing to Jesus through biblically-based worship.
Who Are We
In 2004 a small group of committed Christians needed to do something different. Not satisfied with doing church as they had always done it, this group started over. All they had was a bit of equipment, a few friends and a dream. This dream was of a church where hurting, confused, depressed, and disenfranchised people could find hope, encouragement, love, acceptance and salvation.
Summit Northwest Ministries started out in a couple of storefronts in the Post Falls Outlet Mall and soon expanded to three storefronts. Growth and economics mandated a move from the Outlet Malls to the current location on the corner of Hwy 290 and Idaho Road in Newman Lake, WA. Even though the location and the attendance changed (50% increase in a few short years), the passion to reach hurting, confused, depressed and disenfranchised people for Christ never diminished.
In fact this desire to ‘share our loving God with hurting people so that they can experience His transforming power in their lives’ has become our statement of purpose and the driving force behind what we do. Summit Northwest Ministries is not content to just be a country club church; our goal is to make a difference in people’s lives. We have done this in the following ways:
Locally
We have conducted many service projects to help our neighbors with yard work, getting wood, home repair projects, food, Christmas gifts, holiday dinners, free breakfasts, pet blessing services and countless other acts of friendship and love.
Internationally
Many in our congregation have accepted the call to mission service from a few weeks to a year or longer in places like Africa, Micronesia, Eastern Europe, South America and Africa.
Philippines
We have specifically adopted projects on the small island of Guimaras in the Visayan region of the Philippines. Several students have been assisted with post secondary education. Health Care Workers and a Day Care System have been established to provide for below normal nutrition needs of impoverished children.
Suriname
Summit Northwest Ministries has been instrumental in helping to develop a documentary on the plight of the indigenous peoples of Suriname. This documentary has taken awards in many film festivals in the Caribbean and Ecuador, as well as having been given multiple showings on national TV in Suriname. In the Spring of 2011 it has been requested to be shown at the Smithsonian Film Festival for Indigenous Peoples. It truly is making a difference for hundreds of thousands of people in Suriname and beyond who prior to this documentary had no way to tell their story.
In short, Summit Northwest Ministries is still compelled by the love of Christ to make a difference locally, regionally and internationally. Though small in number we will continue to share the power of His transforming love making a difference throughout the world.
